LRH's Emergency Department serves the Upper Cumberland Region as a Level 3 trauma center.

The physicians and nursing personnel that staff the department are skilled in handling trauma and other medical emergencies. In those instances where transport to a tertiary care center is required, our licensed helipad is serviced by air ambulances from Erlanger (Chattanooga), Vanderbilt (Nashville) and UT Hospital (Knoxville).

For those patients with non-emergent illnesses who can be treated in a clinic setting, the department offers "Fast Track" on weekends. In the Fast Track modality, patients are treated by a Family Nurse Practitioner under the direction of an Emergency Department Physician. Fast Track serves to expedite the process, so that patients are seen and treated in a prompt and efficient manner.
