Livingston Regional Hospital Implements Tobacco-Free Campus Policy
7/5/2010
Livingston, TN. - Livingston Regional Hospital is going tobacco/smoke-free on September 1, 2010. After this time, no tobacco use of any kind will be permitted on hospital property. This initiative will include the elimination of designated areas located on hospital premises where employees, patients and visitors are currently permitted to use tobacco products.
As the leading cause of preventable death in the United States, smoking kills both smokers and those subjected to secondhand smoke. As a healthcare organization, we are committed to the health and safety of our employees, patients, and our community. We believe that we have a responsibility to take a leadership role on this major health issue, establishing our entire campus as a tobacco/smoke-free campus.
Livingston Regional Hospital's decision to go tobacco-free is not an attempt to "force" anyone to quit smoking. Rather the tobacco-free initiative is a concrete way we can demonstrate our ongoing commitment to a healthy lifestyle and to the community's wellbeing. For those who wish to quit, free smoking cessation information is available through our Admitting Department. Please call (931) 823-5611 for more information.
"We are asking for community support with our tobacco/smoke-free initiative as we move toward September 1, 2010. The hospital board of directors and medical staff fully support our efforts and we hope the community will as well," states Michael Meadows, CEO. "Let's work together toward a healthier community for our families and neighbors."
